Miss. regulators OK proposed $2.4B coal-fired power plant

Mississippi Power has spent $1.1 billion so far on construction of its new coal-fired power plant in Kemper County, Miss. The $2.4 billion plant had received regulatory approval, but a lawsuit was brought against the project when regulators increased the cost cap to $2.88 billion to deal with possible cost overruns, and the state's Supreme Court ordered the Mississippi Public Service Commission to review the issue. On Tuesday, the commission reaffirmed its approval of the project.
