AAFP gives HHS input on incentives to speed up health IT

A letter by AAFP Board Chair Glen Stream, M.D., to the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT said the Academy supports electronic health records and health information exchanges, but that payment policy changes would require practices to "make significant investments of financial, intellectual and human capital." Stream said there should be substantial incentives that go beyond the Medicare and Medicaid programs to drive changes in physician practices and affect the greatest number of patients.
