GE buys 10% stake in Pivotal Initiative for $105M

General Electric is investing $105 million to acquire a 10% equity stake in the Pivotal Initiative, a Big Data and cloud venture owned by EMC and VMware. GE's Global Software Center in San Ramon, Calif., will employ Pivotal's platform-as-a-service offerings, which are scheduled to become available in the fourth quarter. "Last decade was all about the consumer Internet; this decade is about the Industrial Internet," GE's Bill Rue said.
