Organovo makes big advance in 3D printed livers

Organovo has used 3D printing to produce functioning human livers on a tiny scale. To be exact, the livers are 20 cells thick, small but a big improvement on the previous limit of one or two cells in thickness. "The multi-cellular tissues closely reproduce the distinct cellular patterns found in native tissue [and] our tissues are highly cellular, comprised of cells and the proteins those cells produce," said Organovo Chief Technology Officer Sharon Presnell.
