Department of Education revokes Wash. state's NCLB waiver

The U.S. Department of Education has revoked Washington state's waiver from No Child Left Behind, which means the state will have to find other ways to replace the $40 million it was receiving in federal funds. The decision to revoke the federal waiver stems from the state's refusal to tie students' test scores to teachers' evaluations -- a requirement under the waiver. Loss of the waiver means that the state will resume reporting adequate yearly progress under NCLB.
