Senate committee sets Tuesday vote for Fed nominees

The Senate banking committee is set to vote Tuesday on the nominations of Stanley Fischer, Lael Brainard and Jerome Powell to serve on the Federal Reserve board. President Barack Obama has nominated Fischer, previously head of Israel's central bank, as vice chairman. Confirmation of the nominees has become an urgent matter as the Fed board normally has seven members, but only four governors are currently serving and one is poised to retire soon.
