Study: Shale gas production in Appalachian region to soar through 2035

Total shale natural gas production from the Utica and Marcellus plays in the Appalachian Basin is expected to increase by 9 billion cubic feet per day through 2035, according to a study by ICF International. Output will reach 34 billion cubic feet of gas per day by 2035, higher than the previous forecast of more than 25 billion cubic feet per day. "Our past forecasts were conservative, with risk to the upside. Now, I think we're more optimistic and the risks are on the downside," said Frank Brock, senior market specialist at ICF.
