Supreme Court will hear 2 more patent cases next week

Patents, specifically those owned by companies that own them only to collect royalties, appear to be a key focus of the Supreme Court this term, and the court is set to hear two more cases on the subject next week. "The Supreme Court is worried and has been for years that patent power is too strong -- too many patents are issuing, too many people are being abused by them," said University of Houston law professor Paul Janicke. One upcoming case involves a patent on a heart-rate monitor; the other deals with a patented way of sending visual data over the Internet.
