Tour operators: Cuban travel continues to surge despite banking problems

The Cuban Interests Section's continued lack of a bank to handle its business in the U.S. has so far been unable to stem the tide of American travelers to Cuba, tour operators say. Bob Drumm, president of General Tours, says the social change taking place in Cuba is driving travel interest in the country. "Much like the surge in business to Russia during Perestroika in the late '80s, social change is exciting to see and to feel in Cuba," Drumm said. "This change is gathering speed and is encouraging bookings into the future despite the visa murkiness at present."
