Why airlines resist innovation when it comes to boarding

Airlines tend to seat passengers from the front of the plane to the back, even though studies have shown that it's the least efficient method. Generally, though, airlines resist innovation in this area because the unpleasant, inefficient process allows them to charge fees to travelers who want to jump the line.
