Venture capitalists shift away from biotech in first quarter

Venture capitalists shifted priorities from biotechnology to Internet companies in the first quarter of 2005, according to a survey by VentureOne and Ernst & Young. Investment levels have remained steady at $4.5 billion to $5 billion over the past couple of years, but investment in biotech dropped to $657 million, down from more than $1 billion during the fourth quarter of 2004.
