Gates recalibrates polio campaign, with focus on health care systems

Big donors led by Microsoft founder-turned-philanthropist Bill Gates hope a new plan to aim funding and prevention efforts at improving health care systems rather than just battling a single disease -- polio -- will help maintain gains against individual diseases and improve overall conditions in the developing world. Polio flare-ups continue to plague the world despite a two-decade-long $8.2 billion dedicated campaign to eradicate the disease.
