Researchers turn sand into electricity

Researchers have come up with a way to use ordinary sand as a catalyst to convert water into hydrogen, which they say could then be used to power fuel cells and provide clean energy. The technique, which involves grinding sand into a nano-scale powder, could one day allow vehicles to generate hydrogen on the fly, rather than needing to carry around bulky fuel tanks.
