Yelp's reviews service gives restaurants a second chance to win over customers who've had a less-than-stellar experience, says Nicole Maddocks, a manager at Garrido's Restaurant in Austin, Texas. By privately messaging unhappy customers and offering free appetizers, Maddocks says she's able to engage diners more effectively than she can through less-targeted social tools, such as Twitter.
