California researchers set up synthetic biology institute

Scientists at the University of California, Berkeley, have established an institute to pursue research on cell engineering and biological systems for enhancing technology used in energy, health, medicine and other fields. The UC Berkeley Synthetic Biology Institute will collaborate with Agilent Technologies using synthetic biology to develop feasible approaches to producing biofuels, new treatments for stubborn diseases and other applications.
