Design choice for I-5 bridge replacement could speed federal funds

Oregon and Washington state have different goals for a replacement bridge over Interstate 5 but needed to agree on a design or risk losing federal funds. Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber and Washington Gov. Christine Gregoire chose a deck-truss option for the $3 billion project because it required less environmental and design work ahead of time.
