Feds plan to develop guidelines to measure EHR usability

National Coordinator for Health IT Dr. Farzad Mostashari said his office will collaborate with the National Institute for Standards and Technology as well as other private and public groups to craft standards for measuring and testing the usability of electronic health records and other HIT systems. The standards are expected to make HIT adoption more transparent and boost patient safety.
