Justice Department approves Southwest, AirTran merger

The Justice Department ruled Tuesday that the merger of Southwest and AirTran will not hurt competition or lead to higher airfares. The ruling is the final hurdle for the $1.4 billion deal that gives Southwest access to routes originating from AirTran hubs in Atlanta and Washington, D.C.
