PG&E to cover Calif. blast's damage costs through $70 million trust fund

Pacific Gas & Electric has pledged to cover the damage costs from last year's natural gas explosion in San Bruno, Calif., through a $70 million trust fund, and it has already deposited $12 million. "We are committed to helping the people and the city of San Bruno rebuild their lives and their community," said PG&E spokeswoman Brittany Chord. The move gave the city the assurance that funds are available to cover the explosion's costs and that taxpayers would not shoulder the burden, a city official said.
