Pressure mounts for technology firms regarding tracking policies

Five Republican members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee sent letters to the heads of six companies, including Apple and Google, asking them to elaborate on their companies' smartphone practices related to tracking and storing user location data as part of an inquiry into possible privacy violations. The letter follows similar calls from Sen. Al Franken, D-Minn., Rep. Ed Markey, D-Mass., Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan and telecom regulators in South Korea.
