Work is moving ahead on Hawaii's $5.3B rail project

Hawaii is set to start relocating water, gas, sewer and phone lines, trees and storm drains along a highway in Honolulu to make way for a $5.3 billion rail transit project. Crews have taken soil samples and performed shaft tests. Right-of-way acquisitions are being negotiated. Approval from the Federal Transit Administration is expected in the fall and then construction could start.
