Green-roof requirement expands to industrial facilities in Toronto

A mandate that requires installation of green roofs on new commercial and residential buildings in Toronto has been expanded to include industrial facilities, Kaid Benfield writes. New industrial structures will be required to cover 10% of their rooftops with plants, except when the entire roof is covered with reflective materials and stormwater retention measures are in place. The city's mandate has led to installation of over 1.2 million square feet of greenery in the area as of last fall, according to the Green Roofs for Healthy Cities.
