Hospices focus outreach on minority communities

Chicago-area hospices have set up outreach programs, hired bilingual staff and partnered with other health care organizations in an effort to reach Latinos, Asian-Americans and other minorities. Nationally, less than 6% of Latinos make that choice, and VITAS Innovative Hospice Care community liaison Becky Bart says the concept is misunderstood by relatives who are concerned about their responsibilities to dying family members.
