Md. teacher uses Twitter to communicate with students

A middle-school teacher in Maryland launched a Twitter account at the start of the 2011-12 school year to help engage students and improve class participation, and now is hosting weekly chats online. Albert Lewis said he also uses the account to broadcast school news to the community and address early online conflicts among students. "For a teacher to be using social networking to discuss issues that affect them and they won't be judged, it appeals to them," he said.
