Mich. Democrats seek chemical disclosure, fracking moratorium in legislation

Lawmakers in Michigan have proposed legislation that would require a study of the long-term effects of hydraulic fracturing, issue a moratorium on certain fracking activities, and require public comment and chemical information before drillers could receive permits. The state environmental regulator said oversight has been effective. "This process has been here operating safely for a very long time. If it wasn't, the [Department of Environmental Quality] ... would further regulate it or shut it down," said spokesman Brad Wurfel.
