Nokia no longer top dog as Samsung overtakes rival

Samsung Electronics rose to the top of the cellphone universe as sales lifted the South Korean firm's profits 82% in the first quarter, according to reports from the company and the Strategy Analytics research firm. The firm reports that Samsung held a 25.4% share of the market, compared with a 22.5% share for Nokia, and shipped 36% more phones in the quarter than a year earlier. Samsung attributed most of its gains to its Galaxy line of smartphones.
