Brian Sims, an attorney and civil rights activist, triumphed over a longtime incumbent Pennsylvania state representative in a Democratic primary this week, meaning Sims will become the state’s first openly gay state lawmaker. Equality Pennsylvania hailed the historic moment as “long overdue.” “LGBT Pennsylvanians will finally have a voice in their state Legislature,” said Chuck Wolfe of the Victory Fund, which backed Sims’ campaign.
