Researchers seek ways to boost output, reliability of "smart" turbines

A group of researchers from Purdue University is using a $1.6 million federal grant to find ways of enhancing the longevity and reliability of "smart" wind turbines. "Mitigating failures and enhancing safety will go a long way toward shaping popular perceptions of wind farms and accelerating broader acceptance within local communities," said lead researcher Jan Vitek.
