Social media are increasingly important for airports

Social media have emerged as vital tools for airports to communicate their updates and provide customer service to passengers. More than half of European airports use Facebook or Twitter, statistics from SimpliFlying show. Airport Facebook pages averaged nearly 6,000 "likes" each, and the rate of airport social media users exploded 800% in Central and Eastern Europe from 2011 to 2012.
