Reducing CIT increases organ transplant patient survival time

The International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation's annual meeting looked at recent results of a European trial on the Organ Care System and compared that method of preserving organs for transplants with the cold preservation method. Data suggested improved outcomes when the OCS was used because it reduced or eliminated cold ischemic time. One transplant surgeon said, "the amount of life years gained through better efficiency within the organ transport system is astonishing." Trials are expected to begin in the U.S.
