Video-game simulations may give students a good workout

Virtual workouts may be nearly as good as the real thing, a Canadian science and physical-education teacher discovered after testing the heart rates of eighth-graders who ran a real foot race and those who competed using a Nintendo Wii game. "It would at least allow you to maintain your current fitness level, which, for some of the kids is better than doing absolutely nothing," he said, after finding virtual athletes' heart rates reached nearly ideal workout levels.
