Airlines find bag fees a win-win proposition

Southwest Airlines' decision to hold the line on bag fees has attracted more passengers, while other airlines say the fees have significantly bolstered their revenues. "We believe that we're having a meaningful impact and creating awareness among customers that we are virtually alone in not charging the bag fee, and that is translating to higher demand for Southwest Airlines," said President Gary Kelly. Meanwhile, US Airways expects bag fees and other charges to generate at least $400 million this year.
