California garden hearkens back to 1925 roots

Robin Colman and Cheryl Bode purchased a 1925 home in Altadena, Calif., and restored the property's gardens to their original lush condition. The 3/4-acre grounds now include a vintage orchard, a walled rose garden and a lower lawn that serves double duty as a dance floor. Landscape designer Thomas Batcheller Cox also tried to preserve as many of the old-growth sycamore trees as possible, while adding unusual varieties of birds of paradise.
