Psychologist: Teens with autism may face special challenges

Focusing on strengths, developing social skills and encouraging independence are all central to helping teens with autism prepare for adulthood, says Ron Leaf, a psychologist who co-founded the Autism Partnership, an autism therapy center. Breaking skills into component parts and practicing repeatedly -- an approach also used in applied behavior analysis -- also are essential for success, Leaf says.
