Vancouver tunnels to protect water infrastructure from earthquakes

Officials in Vancouver, B.C., believe water tunnels will help keep the area's water infrastructure safe during a severe earthquake. They are now designing tunnels to withstand an earthquake of magnitude 8 or 9 that will run under the Fraser River and Burrard Inlet. Work on the $164.59 million project is scheduled to start in January 2010.
