Appeals court upholds class-action status in Wal-Mart case

By one vote, a federal appeals court Monday upheld a lower court's decision to award class-action status to plaintiffs in a gender-discrimination lawsuit against the world's largest retailer. Wal-Mart plans to appeal the decision to the U.S. Supreme Court, its lawyer said. "We disagree with the decision of the sharply divided 6-5 court to uphold portions of the certification order, and are considering our options," Wal-Mart said in a statement.
