Commentary: Officials must consider consequences of Basel III

Hugo Bänziger, chief risk officer at Deutsche Bank, notes that Basel II rules enhanced risk management but also provided some unintended consequences. Financial institutions were subjected to higher minimum standards, leading banks to follow certain trends, which created different risks. Bänziger cautions that Basel III rules likely would have unintended consequences as well.
