Nevada district is hiring in some areas even as it cuts jobs

School officials in Nevada's Clark County are expected to eliminate about 540 teacher jobs next year while also seeking more teachers who specialize in math, science and special education. Requirements that teachers be "highly qualified" in subject areas preclude the district from shuffling existing teachers into those positions, which have been harder to fill, administrators say.
