New taxes in Washington state target candy and drinks

Candy, soda, bottled water, beer and cigarettes are among the items that will cost more for Washington state consumers under a tax package signed into law. Candy and gum are now subject to the state's 6.5% sales tax, though a tax credit was created for candy manufacturers with employees in the state.
