Schumer: Carry-on bags "essential" to air travel

Carry-on bags are "a necessity for air travel," Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., said during a Monday news conference at Albany International Airport. "There's a worry, if you check your bag, it won't show up at your destination," said Schumer, who is seeking to ensure that recent carry-on fees announced by Spirit Airlines don't spread to other carriers. Schumer is seeking to define carry-ons as "essential" to air travel, allowing the government to tax any fees the airlines may charge.
