U.S. should consider reprocessing spent fuel

Steven Chu, secretary of the Energy Department, has directed a panel tasked with finding alternatives to Nevada's Yucca Mountain nuclear-waste repository project to give serious consideration to reprocessing spent fuel, according to Donald A. Grant in this opinion column. Reprocessing and recycling can reduce the volume and toxicity of used fuel and capture large amounts of remaining energy.
