Intel says it's developing faster, cheaper interconnect technology

Intel says it's shooting for a launch date of 2015 for interconnect technology that would use silicon photonics to greatly accelerate data transfers in devices such as PCs, smartphones, tablets and TVs. Intel's Jeff Demain said the technology will be able to transport data at up to 50 gigabits per second over short distances and could be less expensive than current interconnect technologies.
