Lawyers: Changes on patent re-examinations would have pros, cons

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office's recent proposal is a step toward the necessary streamlining of the patent re-examination process, but the office needs to be careful not to unfairly limit patent owners' opportunities to defend their intellectual property, patent lawyers say. One helpful change that the proposal would bring is that those who request a re-examination of a patent would have to be more specific about their concerns, lawyers say.
