Cargill study: Sweetener promotes tooth health

The zero-calorie sweetener erythritol protects against plaque buildup and calorie risk better than xylitol and sorbitol, a Cargill study indicates. "We now understand that there may be important differences between how sugar substitutes affect the oral microbiota and dental health when used in candies -- and that erythritol may have greater benefits," the report said.
