Congress unlikely to authorize base closures this year

House Armed Services Committee Chairman Buck McKeon said he's rejecting the Pentagon's request for two more rounds of the Base Realignment and Closure Commission. The Pentagon has argued that it has too much infrastructure and needs the reductions. Legislators reluctant to authorize base closures fear that the Reserves would be forced to bear most of the cuts, said a spokesman for Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif.
