Green, white roofs can lower temperatures in urban areas

Installation of vegetated or reflective roofs can lower temperatures in urban areas, according to a study from researchers at Columbia University in New York. The study found that black roofs were significantly warmer than their green or white counterparts. Similarly, a picture and graph from the NASA Earth Observatory website showed that green and white roofs can have a cooling effect on cities.
