Outlet retail centers are moving closer to regional centers, said Robert Cohen, a real estate broker with RFK. "It used to be that they wanted to stay as far away as possible so they didn't compete." Outlet centers are also gaining in prestige, as many luxury brands now open stores with discounts and benefit from moving merchandise. "High-fashion brands sense it's profitable, but they like to know their peers are here," said John Klein, president of Simon Property Group's Premium Outlets.
