Alcatel reaps $1.7 billion in Chinese mobile deals

A pair of Chinese telecoms has awarded Alcatel-Lucent deals worth $1.7 billion to oversee their upgrades to 3G -- and eventually 4G. The contracts with China Mobile and China Telecom are worth $1 billion and $700 million, respectively, and follow a succession of deals Alcatel signed with the country's wireless providers in 2008.
