The latest rush of talk concerning potential deals involving Apple, Verizon Wireless and Microsoft is a sign that telecoms see the urgency in tapping new markets beyond their traditional voice services and hardware sales, according to industry observers. They say telecoms and consumer-electronics companies want to make sure they have access to whatever platforms -- such as laptop computers -- wireless technology eventually serves.
