Hawaii bill eliminating teacher furloughs goes to governor

Hawaii lawmakers have approved a bill that would use money from the state's hurricane fund to eliminate 17 teacher-furlough days in the next school year. The bill will go to Gov. Linda Lingle for her signature. However, Lingle has pledged to use just $57 million from the fund -- not the $67 million the bill calls for. Hawaii teachers have three remaining furlough days this school year.
